STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — At the start of Ronnie’s Sandwich Shoppe in 2018, dinner was just an inkling of an idea for Christine Rivelli for her family’s Grant City restaurant. Just before COVID-19 quarantines struck, the concept became reality for the busy luncheonette.
Rivelli rented the adjoining storefront to expand with a new dining area. Now, she serves meals in the evening from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. She dubs the venture “Ronnie’s Corner” just to differentiate between the luncheonette and sit-down service for a nighttime crowd.
